I thought I'd post this quickie guide to a few Japanese acronyms floating around on NicoNico and other places. I first learned about these when I used to play Gunz Online in Japan, many many moons ago...and yet there are still a few words I'm confuzzled about. If anybody out there has any more pertinent info, please, share them :)
- "www" = A common way of laughing, a la "lol". Stems from warai, or "to laugh".
- "wktk" = Shortened form of waku teku, which is an onomatopoeia for showing anticipation.
- "ktkr" = Another short form for kita kore, which is probably closest to "woot" or something. Kita by itself is a semi-reference from 2ch and Densha Otoko. (ex: キタ━━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━━ !!!!!)
- "dkdk" = A bit rare to see, but its another short form for doki doki, which is the sound a heartbeat makes when its pumping faster to you know, express palpitation.
- "orz" or "OTL" = If you can't see it, this is kind of like a small guy "bowing" to express humbleness. I have friends who swear they still can't see it...
- "ky" = Shortened for kusoyaro. Its usually said humourously, but quite literally it means m***** f*****.
- "4649" = This one I picked up from MMO's. 4649 means yoroshiku, with the 4 from yon or 四, the 6 from roku or 六, another 4, and 9 from kyu or 九. It can be abbreviated to 46 or yoru.
